An interconnected digital working world

“Connecting Competence”

As the digital revolution increasingly permeates our work and private lives, IT is becoming the heart of a company. Yet for information technologies to truly offer added value, they must be seamlessly integrated into a network and aligned to meet the users’ needs.

At the CeBIT conference, which took place in Germany last week, Samsung provided an outlook on user scenarios for “connecting competence” – its philosophy for IT technologies that offer added value – and introduced networked solutions for use in education, healthcare, finance, retail and the public sector.

According to Mike van Lier, Business Leader for IT Solutions at Samsung Electronics SA, a teacher using an eBoard to integrate a video stream into a multimedia panel, or students taking notes on their Samsung GALAXY Note 10.1 with their S Pens, adding films they have produced themselves whilst researching on the Internet, is no longer a vision for the future.

With its Samsung Smart School Solution, Samsung has developed a network solution for both the digital classroom and modern training centres that allow teachers to enhance their lessons by adding multimedia contents and sharing skills on how to use digital technologies.

“Digitalisation of education will play an important role in the future of the information and knowledge society. Therefore, we are supporting the use of digital media in schools and universities not only by offering solutions like the Samsung Smart School Solution, but also by participating in the initiative ‘RETHINKING DIGITAL EDUCATION’. We founded this initiative last year in order to be able to make a lasting, long-term contribution to digitalisation of education with the help of targeted programs and projects”, explains van Lier.

“At CeBIT 2014, we focused on meeting the individual needs of IT users in various fields and industries. On the basis of five specific user scenarios, we will be showing what added value our products offer in conjunction with solutions from our partners”, he adds.

Customised to meet all demands

The focus of Samsung’s presence at CeBIT is based on actual business solutions that are oriented toward the needs of specific fields. The Samsung Smart School Solution is just one scenario, providing a solution for the digitalisation in the education industry. Samsung is also providing such results in other industries – In co-operation with solution partners, is presenting four more user scenarios for healthcare, finance, retail and the public sector.

A networked world in the field of healthcare

Optimising administration and treatment processes plays an increasingly important role in healthcare. For example, the “SAP Electronical Medical Record App” brings all of the patient data to a Samsung tablet to enable fast and efficient mobile visits. With the help of the “Hello Mom App”, doctors can send images directly from a Samsung ultrasound system to the smartphones of the expecting parents so that they can immediately take the first pictures of their baby with them digitally and share them with family and friends. This data is managed in a hospital information system with the help of Samsung Managed Information Services (M.I.S.).

The interactive bank – the modern citizen’s office

Samsung also offers a solution scenario for the digital branch office of a bank that focuses on the advantages of offering personal advice, supported by the use of digital technologies. Bank employees are equipped with tablets, have access to finance plans and calculations during their discussions with the customer and are then able to store electronic signatures securely with the help of the SoftPro Software. They must authenticate themselves at the printer by using an RFID chip to be able to print out the signed contract. This ensures that sensitive documents are protected against unauthorised access.

IT also needs to meet high demands for security in public authorities like city halls or government offices. Here, Samsung will be presenting a digital city office whose employees use cloud displays that are connected to the network and therefore protected against unauthorised copying of data and malicious software. In the retail branch, the main focus will be on digital signage applications on Samsung large format displays that advertise for special offers in a high-quality, interactive and visually attractive manner.
