EdTech Summit South Africa 2014: Bringing 21 st century technology skills and tools to South African teachers and classrooms

The second annual EdTech Summit South Africa will take place between 2 and 13 August 2014.

This year Summit organisers will provide free and quality professional development to over 1000

teachers across five provinces, working in under-served schools in Johannesburg, Jane Furse,

Ladysmith, Durban, Cape Town and East London.

EdTech Summit South Africa 2014 will build on the success of the 2013 Summit, which saw over

240 educators attend and begin to adopt technology into their teaching and learning. The EdTech

Summit Team believes that teachers who are motivated and trained can cross generations of

barriers to bring excitement, innovation and measurable learning experiences into their

classrooms.

A technology training summit geared to improve education

The Summit will deliver training and development programmes in hands-on workshop format to

educators working in township, urban and rural schools across South Africa. Many of these

teachers have had limited exposure to and experience with technology, but hope to bring it into

their classrooms and schools to better serve the education needs and interests of their learners.

The Summit intends to help address the inequalities in education in South Africa by enabling

educators in under-resourced schools the opportunity to develop their own 21

teaching methodologies and instructional strategies. These educators will then take these

innovative skills, strategies and tools back into their classrooms to benefit learners in local

communities.

International presentation team

The EdTech Summit South Africa Team is a collaborative partnership between Edunova, K2

Productions Global, LEAP Science and Maths Schools, and Teach With Africa; four organisations

seeking to grow the confidence and skills of South African educators in the integration of

technology into their teaching. An international team of education technology professionals,

including local South African experts, will travel around the country to share skills and deliver

multi-track workshops geared to exposing educators to technology options available in

highly-funded schools around the world.
