Comedy award winners to perform together for one night only at The CCA Showcase

In a first for Savanna Comic’s Choice Awards® (CCA) history, this year’s Waldo winners will perform together for one night only at a special showcase at The Soweto Theatre on 20 September 2014.  For only R120, fans of comedy will get to enjoy an unprecedented line up of SA’s fresh, up-and-coming talent alongside heavyweight industry veterans.

Tickets are available here: http://online.computicket.com/web/event/the_cca_showcase/846399845/0/61614732

Comic of the Year Award recipient, the talented Loyiso Gola is on the bill; so prepare to keel over to his quick wit, intelligent satire and controversial repertoire.

Ventriloquist extraordinaire Conrad Koch, recipient of The Times Comic’s Pen Award, promises to impress audiences with his politically charged puppet Chester Missing – who, incidentally has more Facebook fans than he does!

Hugely popular Cape Town based Kagiso KG Mokgadi won the breakthrough category and will treat Joburg fans to his deep-voiced gags and relaxed delivery. The son of a journalist-turned-sangoma father and a nurse mother, KG takes his audiences on a unique comedy journey with a glimpse into the “behind the scenes” practices of a sangoma, what it’s like having a nurse for a mom, and why he was never able to take a day off sick from school.

Savanna Audience Choice Award winner Elton Mdu Ntuli is massively entertaining with his hilarious vernacular routine.  To top it all off, celebrated Lifetime Achiever recipient, Mark Banks will host the show.  Of the six award winners, only Savanna Newcomer Award recipient Loyiso Madinga is unavailable to complete the lineup due to a prior commitment.

‘The 4th Annual South African Savanna Comic’s Choice Awards® was held in August and was a huge hit’ comments CCA Executive Producer Taffia Keight. September’s CCA Showcase is the last of five events on the annual CCA calendar and is a great way to round up our best year yet.  Previously held at The Lyric Theatre, we’ve moved it to The Soweto Theatre this year to showcase this beautiful, high-spec venue by booking the best names in South African comedy to perform at it.  With each act doing a 15 to 20 minute set, it makes for a great night out.’

The best events need the best partners to support them so the comedy industry thanks Savanna for making this all possible via its three-year commitment as title sponsor.  Big thanks too to The Times for sponsoring The Comic’s Pen Award, which recognises the craft of the written word – and of course Mzansi Magic, The Times and Kaya FM 95.9 for recognising this initiative and for giving the industry the exposure and visibility it so deserves.
