Established in 2006 by prolific, Soweto born veteran rapper, Linda PRO(kid) Mkhize. Started as a common phrase used in the start and the ending of many of his popular hit songs, such as Woz’uzobona, Soweto, Fede Fokol and Sekele to mention but a few.
Dankie San, the idea was birthed as a by product of the music but it expanded to merchandising limited not only to T-shirts but an offering that appeased and pleased initially the patriotic Soweto market and soon after he released his 3rd album, conveniently titled “Dankie San” the whole country caught on.
It catapulted to a fully fledged kasi clothing label following in the steps of pioneering brands such a Magents and Loxion Kulca. The rise and notoriety started when it was given a nod by DJ Sbu on his popular breakfast show back in his Yfm days, and then popular kid television program, Yotv.
The most damaging obstacle to any business is getting the product to the backs of the Township dwelling, local hip hop loving people spread across the 9 provinces, spilling into our neighbours’ borders in Swaziland, Lesotho, Zim and Botswana.
Fast forward to 10 years later and the guys at Dankie San promise to bring nothing but the most daring original designs to street fashion and supporters of local brands. Following the release of their latest trendy jumpsuits and back-to-school racks, pencil cases and buckets. Their latest on trend baseball caps, a variety of tees, crops and more, a fitting online store is born.
