I am not a petrol-head nor am I a die-hard motorist, by this I mean I have no favourite car or fantasy ride and I don’t even measure my success with the kind of car I will be driving in the 5 years to come. The only thing I know about cars is how to drive them from point A to point B, no knowledge of pistons, alternators and or dipsticks, sounds silly for a guy I know. Now that we are clear on that, let me delve into why I’m writing this article. We at ‘Book Of Swag’ do not believe brands should broadcast messages at consumers/people about any and every thing that has product or branded-motives behind it.

So about 3 weeks ago our friends at Magna Carta, not the team behind Jay-z’s last album but, the revered PR agency from multiple award winning Ad agency TBWA Hunt Luscaries invited us out for a fun day/amazing race-style-like tour of our favourite city in the world; Johannesburg, Jozi, J-sec ,the 011 capital… Call it whatever you want to but, this is one of the world’s greatest cities. So we were going to spend a day roaming, exploring and learning about our beloved city’s rich history.

The one thing we least expected was to be driving around the new Datsun Go. Look, it is one thing to be driven in a fancy looking bus, getting the traditional touristy walk-about in your own backyard. We were impressed that we getting the pleasure of driving ourselves to the Con Hill (Constitution Hill) for a brief look back at some of the harsh realities our people had to undergo for the freedoms we enjoy without care today.

The Dutsun Go, is a car made for students, that 19-24 year old with ambitions of a great future but still wants to go places #BecauseCar. Yes I said #BecauseCar, why because with a car you have a sense of freedom to roam and reign supreme, I assume we are all aware that visibility in your late teens and early twenties is of significance importance. It is important to be noticed and now that night life is abuzz in our country and there aren’t any regulations as to where one can “GO”, a swift fuel efficient and easy drive is just what the cool kids ordered.

I must say I was pretty impressed with the GO; it drove from Con Hill to the Soweto towers and Sakhumzi’s on Vilakazi Street without burning much gas. It was fully equipped with a sound system that just makes you want to go further. We then drove from Soweto in peak traffic back to 20 west hotels for what would be icing to a day already well spent. I mean what was a full body massage at a spa in the tranquillest part of Sandton at the Camelot Spa. After that session was wrapped up we had more GO, than all the Datsun dealerships combined. LOL!
There you have it Datsun Go is definitely a sleek, portable and a student savvy vehicle that is kind to the eye as well as the petrol gauge. Not that is good enough to GO.
