Goldfish to supply some ‘dam’ fine vibes at DStv Delicious Festival

7 SA acts added to the line-up to join the 90s kings

Local dance kings Goldfish and one-man band Jeremy Loops will be entertaining the crowds alongside a trio of international music acts at the DStv Delicious International Food & Music Festival, taking place at Emmarentia Dam on Saturday, 31 May 2014.

Goldfish, the South African Music Award-winning duo that has taken the country – and the world – by storm with their killer electronica tunes, will join fellow Capetonian Loops, a modern folk musician known for inventively layering tunes with a loop pedal, on the main stage at this day-long celebration of grooves and gastronomy.

Also performing at this family lifestyle event are sensational UK acts the Brand New Heavies, Soul II Soul and Incognito.

Plus, visitors can take in the smooth sounds of the Soul Candi Experience at the Dance Stage, featuring top South African DJs Harael Salkow, Lulo Café, Ricardo da Costa, DJ Kent, Euphonik and Household Funk on the decks.

The second annual DStv Delicious Festival, presented in association with Castle Milk Stout, Whirlpool, Mitsubishi Motors, Kaya FM and Nedbank, is set to be an affair to remember at the picturesque Johannesburg Botanical Gardens at Emmarentia Dam.

Visitors can shop at leisure for gourmet treats at the extensive artisan food market, where some 40 traders will lay out a feast of inviting goodies. Why not bring an empty picnic basket to fill up with fresh, quality fare and enjoy on the lawns while chilling out to the great music on offer?

You can also dine at one of the three pop-up restaurants at the festival: Food Network Cooks Delicious with Jenny Morris and Siba Mtongana, Rachel Khoo’s BBC Lifestyle Cosmopolitan Cook Kitchen and, for the first time in SA, the MasterChef SA Kitchen in association with Woolworths.

Gain first-hand insights into what goes on in the MasterChef kitchen with judge Benny Masekwameng, who will be joined by Season 2 winner Kamini Pather as well as finalists Seline van der Wat and Tiron Eloff, and Karen Hart, food editor of Move, Kuier and TV Plus magazines.

The MasterChef SA Kitchen menu will comprise a number of viewers’ favourite dishes from past series, as well as a scrumptious three-course meal costing R550 per person.

The irresistible dishes on offer include coffee- and cumin-roasted lamb loin with oven potatoes, salmon three ways (with Pete Goffe-Wood), chickpea falafels with yoghurt dressing, Thai-style potato curry, duck burger with apple and plum relish, soft butter chicken with fragrant rice, and crunchy crostini topped with seared ostrich and cherry marmalade.

Enjoy cooking demonstrations and food sampling with Jenny and Siba, as well as “mystery basket” cook-off competitions hosted by TV personality Denvor Phokaners. The menu at Rachel Khoo’s 100-seater restaurant will offer a number of tasting plates for starters, mains and desserts from her forthcoming series, and will also cost R550 per person.

The DStv kids’ area will keep the younger set busy and entertained with an Adventure Island castle, Spartacus from Lazy Town live show and meet and greet, baking, putt-putt, a maze and Boomerang attractions.

Joburgers are invited to come and immerse themselves in a sublime foodie atmosphere at the DStv Delicious Festival, where a taste for the finer things in life – food and music – is paramount. Gates open at 11am, with the pop-up restaurants open for business between 12:30pm and 6:30pm.
