In honour of Nelson Mandela Day on Monday 18 July, KFC Add Hope, together with one of its 110 beneficiaries, JAM SA and its ambassadors, Chris Jafta and Luyanda Mzazi together with well-known South African faces LeAnne Dlamini, Liesl Laurie and Siv Ngesi, packed 1000 food parcels in 67 minutes, for the children supported by the KFC Add Hope initiative.

We received a call out from KFC and we answered. We’ve always discussed how contributing meaningfully through the platform we have is essential, either as content makers or contributors. As soon as the opportunity presented itself we jumped straight in and the task at hand was packing boxes. Packing boxes was effortless all the more we were doing it for a good course, why the hell not?

KFC team members from the head office joined in too, to show their support in celebrating a day in which all South African’s can honour making a change in the lives of others.
Running all year round, Add Hope is a national feeding initiative, allowing KFC customers to purchase ‘hope’ off the menu for just R2. Each and every one of us has the power to change someone’s life, with every donation going directly to the Add Hope beneficiaries.

Also, joining in on the day to ‘add hope’ was well-known South African faces LeAnne Dlamini, Liesl Laurie and Siv Ngesi, coming together to support the celebration of Mandela Day, and taking a stand to make a difference to the lives that need it most. The 1000 food parcels, all packed in 67 minutes, will be donated to three Add Hope beneficiaries across South Africa; JAM, Claremont Soup Kitchen and Christian Social Council Alberton.

Just to put it in perspective. To come into an office and see South african of all races join hands and pack food and also adding a message of hope in one of the famous #AddHope red coloured bowls. I figure some kid or family will read that message and take it to heart. One this day has taught me is that people do care, they just struggle to show it.

Since its inception in 2009, KFC’s corporate social responsibility programme Add Hope has made great strides in making a meaningful difference and today Add Hope feeds over 100 000 children across South Africa every day, and continues to invest in the importance of providing children with nutritional meals.
“KFC is a brand with heart, with real people adding hope. Add Hope is KFC’s commitment to help feed children in South Africa, because we believe a hungry nation can never be a growing one,” says Mike Middleton, Chief Marketing Officer, KFC Africa.

“Nelson Mandela Day is such a great initiative and an opportune time to give back to the communities that KFC serves. The ultimate goal for Add Hope is to increase the amount of children we feed across the country, to help them learn, grow and thrive to be future leaders,” adds Middleton.

“In SA, 26% of children under the age of nine are stunted as they do not receive sufficient nutrition for proper brain and physical development. This means they cannot learn and play as other children would. We believe children deserve a better future and we are thankful to KFC Add Hope and all KFC customers who ‘add hope’ and make it possible for us to provide children with the necessary nutrition everyday, concludes David Brown, Managing Director, JAM SA.
