FIRST-EVER WORLDWIDE WHISKEY BARREL HUNT IN CAPE TOWN
26 August, 2016 – Friday 19th August saw the nail-biting Cape Town leg of the global Jack Daniel’s Barrel Hunt take place, the brand’s first ever global scavenger hunt. 150 handcrafted barrels have been hidden at historic and cultural sites across the world to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Jack Daniel Distillery.
Following a series of handcrafted bespoke clues released on the Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey Facebook page and created by the talented illustrators known collectively as +NESS, the hunt was on across Cape Town. Only 50 people were granted access to the secret location that has been associated with popular culture since 1935 – Jack Lemkus store situated in the Exchange Building in St Georges Mall. Each participant was given a key and only one key unlocked the barrel to reveal incredible prizes worth over R150 000 – including a trip to the Jack Daniel Distillery in Lynchburg and also 3 days in New York, with travel companions KFM DJ Rob Vember and 947 DJ Anele Mdoda. Alecia Fortuin was announced the lucky winner.
Jack Lemkus, the enormously popular street wear store is regarded as the place to shop for the biggest names in sneakers and was in fact the first company in South Africa to build relationships with brands such as Nike, adidas and Vans. The newly re-designed ‘New York’ style store was paired with all things Jack Daniel’s for the occasion as competition participants, media and KFM personalities enjoyed a taste of Jack Daniel’s to the sound of DJ Zweli on the decks.
