ONE LAUGH
Comedians’ The Napsta (Host), Donovan Goliath, Nina Hastie, Yaaseen
Barnes, Loyiso Madinga, Carl Joshua (Zimbabwe) and Snooze (Malawi)
have joined forces to take a stand against the ongoing racism and
xenophobic tensions experienced in South Africa over the past few
months. The comedy collective will stage a stand up comedy show on
Friday 13 May titled “One Laugh” at Gold Reef City’s Lyric Theatre. The
show is a first of its kind, as it is designed to specifically address issues
around race, discrimination and inequality.
Over the years we have become accustomed to comedians just being
the guys who jump on stage and act the fool to keep their audiences
entertained. But recently we have seen the ‘clever comic’ becoming
more and more prevalent, as comedians of today don’t just entertain
their audiences, but also use their platform and influence to address
serious issues which leave audiences with lots to think about, after
doing a little introspection.
“Comedy is a very powerful tool and can be used as a catalyst for
change” said The Napsta, main organizer of “One Laugh”, who is also
the Founder & Creative Partner of Napsta Entertainment, a
Johannesburg based Promotions, Events & Branding consulting firm.
The young comedian and entrepreneur further went on to say “We are
not assuming that one comedy show will end racism and xenophobia,
but if we can start the conversation and get people talking, reflecting
and learning to celebrate each others’ differences, then we would have
achieved our objective.
Let us come out in our numbers Mzansi, and get behind this great
initiative. It promises to be nothing less of a rib cracking show, with a
line up of comics specifically arranged to represent a broad spectrum of
the different races that make up our beautiful rainbow nation including
Zimbabwe and Malawi. “If we can laugh together, we can live together”.
