So as soon as we heard that the brother “Ensly Dooms” s finally launching his “GOLD KHROMO” earphones in Mzansi, we saw an opportunity to pick his brain a little and find out what makes this man tick. He was also kind enough to do this QnA with us amidst his hectic daily schedule.
The 25 year-old originally hails from Eldorado Park in Johannesburg South, a community stricken with poverty, drugs and unemployment. His surroundings in this environment did not hamper his entrepreneurial drive. Having overcome various obstacles growing up, this young man is showcasing success to his community.
And the QnA goes as follows:
1. Where did it all start for Ensly Dooms and when did you discover Urban Enzo?
It all started with my love for social media, I felt that it was a medium to expand and share my story and make people aware of who I am and that comes from my believe in personal and individual branding. For me Urban Enzo is just an extension of who I am. For me Urban relates to city life, big thinking and doing and the creativity that comes from an urban environment. I compare my urban thinking to that of New York- where there’s nothing I can’t do, where dreams come true. Everything I say online, everything I do contributes to who and what Urban Enzo is.
2. How has music helped you jump over the hurdles of the environment you’re from?
I use music as an escape mechanism and a tool to boost my creativity. It helped me to channel my thinking into good things instead of focusing on the wrong things. Music has also taught me a lot about society, it put a lot of the things I saw around me into a deeper context by alerting me to ramifications of what is wrong and what is right.
3. Why did you go the earphones route?
I am an avid music listener and one could say that I am obsessed with music. I’ve been extremely critical as to how I want my music to sound. I have tried various headphones and earphones and I was never satisfied with the sound and the design. I then decided to create my own earphones, to get the sound quality and the look and feel that I want. I wanted earphones that fit my style and that offer me the best.
4. When you’re not designing sleek earphones, what are you up to?
I work in Social Media and PR. I am also a blogger focusing on travel, social media and music.
5. How would you advice youngsters across Mzansi to channel their aspirations in the very limited resources our townships offer them?
I believe in collaboration and mentorship. I would encourage them to team up with the right people, to align themselves with other big thinkers and doers so that they could learn and be inspired. Networking can bring about amazing opportunities if one believes in themselves and their story.
6. What do you plan to achieve with this range of Gold Khromo over and above music audio?
I plan to take Gold Khromo into retail stores and then to expand into a full range which will include over the ear headphones and also other electronics like speakers and MP3 players.
7. How did you get to naming it “GOLD KHROMO”, you could have named it anything, is there a hidden message we should be aware?
I love Gold and Chrome. I wanted unique luxe finishes and unique materials to be used in my product and that is why I chose to infuse chrome and gold into the bullet design of my earphones. It’s something different that I know that people have not seen before.

9. What drives you, what makes you strive for better?
What drives me is my surroundings. I know where I come from and I want to make a difference and be an inspiration to others. Just being a role model for others is a driving force for me in itself.
10. Tell us something you think young people should know about talent and “not giving up”.
I would like young people to know that anything is possible with determination. They should never take no for an answer and that they should believe in their own individual brands and that everything they say and do contributes to who and what they are. If they don’t believe in themselves first, then no one else will.
