So in case you didn’t know what took place in Mzansi yesterday or last night you need to up your social media game, by this I mean did you hear them move? And by them I mean( Coal Stove Pictures & Book of Swag).
We collaborated with the hard working people at Coal Stove Pictures to make use of this phenomenal tool known as the Internet, we could not wait for TV shows to play it a week later or a even a day later, so we took it upon ourselves to team up with the makers of the first ever dance film in South Africa let alone Africa.
The idea was to raise awareness for the film before it hits the BIG screen on February 27th 2015 nationwide. We(BookOfSwag) fancy ourselves as “Youth Culture Engineers” in the digital sphere, so we were not waiting on post edits and whatever happens in edit suites, we set out to break the internet by hosting a twitterview marathon from 10 am to 5pm in the afternoon, nonstop engagement with the cast and production team.
Let us make it clear for you , this has NEVER been done before in South Africa or the world, we spoke to Wandi Molebatsi the executive producer and actor of Hear ME Move 1st thing at 10 am, Scottnes Smith the director, Mindo Lydimatthew Sesafe who plays “Pinkie”, Bontle Modiselle who plays “Khanyi” ,Nyaniso Ndzendze and Mbuso Kgarebe the 2 leading males in the film the whole day.
Thembi Seete, Amanda Dupont , Maria Mcloy and the kind Dineo Ranaka joined in amongst many who found or gained interest as the twitter reach grew and engagement increased.
What we achieved instead of breaking the internet was a disruption of the twitter universe, say twitterverse to be cool, we trended in South Africa, got listed in February 2015 100 marketers to look out for on twitter and we reached well over 5 million people throughout the course of the day.Later in the day Newtown Junction was abuzz with euphoria, celebrities young & old, seasoned acting veterans were in attendance and TV world was there to capture it all.
Much has been said about the film I won’t delve into what transpired in the story but I can tell you that our story has been told without specific locations been the centre or subject of conversation but what urban youth yearn for on a daily basis in South Africa and that is to be noticed.
