I bet when that DJ Dimplez,Anati and those ever so fresh Durban kids were screaming ” Show me that yaya, show me that yaya”, they couldn’t possibly have imagined that people all over the world would take them up on that challenge. Ok, ok…I kid, the reason people all over the world are taking off their pants in public, in subways to be specific, isn’t because Dimplez dared them, but, rather because of the globally trending #NoPantsSubwayRide challenge.
The #NoPantsSubwayRide challenge is something of a phenomenon, it was started by a comedy group called Improv Everywhere, it happens every second Sunday of January, more than 25 countries, peculiarly in Europe and the Americana, take up to the subways and show off their yayas, not so much in Africa though, because…uhm..well, you know, we are still an unprogressive-traditionalist bunch, ok, maybe that’s a bit jarring, but we are still averse to nudity and the public display of it. I know this because of the uproar on 702 and CapeTalk567 when the Hibiscus Coast Municipality granted an application by the Kwa-Zulu Naturist Association to declare a 500m portion of Mpenjati Beach, nudist-friendly.
So as fate would have, some cool kids tried pulling the #NoPantsSubwayRide challenge in the Gautrain this past Sunday and they got man handled and handcuffed for indecent exposure. Ya, I know, party poppers right? I am if the KZN can relax their by-laws that prohibit nudity on its beaches, what’s a little showing of the yaya in a Gautrain? So if you are into that kind of thing like I am, be sure to go take your pants off at subway near you, next year January, the second weekend. Until then, check out some #NoPantsSubwayRide pictures on Insta and Twitter, hopefully that will keep you motivated until 2016.
