Slikour brings it home: new single release “Millionaire Shake” & industry-first SA music store
Local Hip Hop musician, businessman and prolific blogger Slikour drops his new single this Friday and it’s called Millionaire Shake. After taking a lengthy sabatical from his performance musical career, Slikour has returned not only inspired to continue telling stories through his music, but with a compulsion to champion support for South African artists. This drive has resulted in his partnership with Bozza Music to launch The 37618 Store – the first digital store to sell only South African music that can be accessed by any mobile phone device.
Slikour’s quintessential tongue-in-cheek approach evident in his previous releases comes to life again in Millionaire Shake. He descibes his new track as tackling current affairs in a fun way.
Thought-provoking as ever, Slikour’s inspiration for Millionaire Shake came from the perception that opulence is the new economic freedom. “I wanted to make fun of how society has adopted this perception and forgotten that people are in fact the most important resource to making a change here,” he says.
Millionaire Shake mahala for just 1 hour this Friday
Dropping this coming Friday, fans will have the opportunity to download Millionaire Shake for free for just 1 hour between 9pm and 10pm from Slikouronlife.co.za. After that, the new single is available for purchase from the pioneering new digital music store, the 37618 Store and also iTunes.
Slikour fans have been following his hugely successful lifestyle site Slikouronlife.co.za for up-to-the-minute music releases and breaking news stories within the industry since its launch just 6 months ago. Already attracting in excess of 52,000 fans and growing each month, Slikour’s idea for the 37618 Store was actually born from his own site.
It’s by an artist for the artists
“Since starting Slikouronlife, I’ve been inundated with talented artists submitting content because they don’t have a place to sell their music. The growth of hot local talent is literally off the charts but we desperately need more support for these artists and we have to find ways to get the music to the people,” he says.
Music chain store closures have partly resulted from a greater move to digital. But with less than 2% of South Africans using an iPhone and having access to iTunes, a massive majority of cell phone users aren’t currently being catered for when it comes to music.
37618 Store – named after the shortcode used on any mobile device with internet connection – is a music store that allows the user to purchase their favourite artist’s songs for R7,50. By simply texting the name of the song to 37618 users receive a download link to the song and within a few seconds they have it on their phone.
Fans can catch Slikour on SABC1’s Live Amp this coming Friday, July 25th to hear the brand new Millionaire Shake for the first time and to hear more from this dynamic artist and entrepreneur.
