NICKI MINAJ MAKES AFRICAN DEBUT TO HEADLINE TRIBEONE DINOKENG FESTIVAL
With the 1st phase of artists announced for the TribeOne Dinokeng Festival and some of the hottest international, Pan African and local acts already billed to perform during the last weekend of September 2014, at what is now being labelled ‘Africa’s biggest festival’, it comes as no surprise that festival organisers and sponsors have decided to add another superstar international headliner to an already prestigious list of names. None other than global hip-hop megastar Nicki Minaj!
The New York Times noted “most influential female rapper of all time”, Nicki Minaj is a rapper, singer, songwriter, fashion icon and actress. With immense success through her independent mixtapes released from 2007- 2009, she attracted the attention of Young Money Entertainment, who signed her to the label. Her first album, ‘Pink Friday’, released in 2010 to much acclaim and success, followed by an equally successful second album, ‘Pink Friday’, and ‘Roman Reloaded’ in 2012. Fans have been wiaitng with bated breath for her lastest offering, The Pink Print, which was released globally just last week. The artist who is known as much for her chich style, flair and fabulosity as for her astounding talent, has also served as a guest judge on the popular US reality show, American Idols.

TribeOne Dinokeng music festival, being held from 26-28th September 2014, will be a first of its kind not just for South Africa, but Africa itself. With a line-up featuring over 150 artists performing on three main stages, it is already being billed as Africa’s biggest festival! The festival will see the historic diamond-mining
town of Cullinan, in the City of Tshwane in South Africa being taken over for the first musical journey of its kind on African shores. International, Pan African and South African artists will perform. Megastar Nicki Minaj will be taking centre stage alongside Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, J Cole, Kid Ink, Keko, AKA, Xtatic, Khuli Chana, Naava Grey, Kwesta, Liquideep, Fally Ipupa, Redsan, Takeifa, Souadou, Ousmane, Ba’ponga and a range of other stars across the Diamond Fields (Hip-Hop and R&B), Thunder Valley (Rock and Pop) and Dance Village (EDM, Dubstep, etc) main stages.

Minaj has sold over 5 million albums globally and is also the first female artist included on MTV’s Annual Hottest MC List, with The New York Times suggesting that some consider her “the most influential female rapper of all time.” Her rapping is known for its fast, distinctive and creative flow, her alter egos and accents. Nicki’s outlandish and colorful costumes, wigs and clothing have given her recognition as a fashion icon in the entertainment and fashion world globally. With over 44 appearances on the Billboard Hot 100, Minaj became the most charted female rapper in history. With endorsements from Adidas, Mac Cosmetics and Pepsi, she has certainly proved her star pulling power! Minaj has ventured into work as a voice actress in blockbuster, Ice Age: Continental Drift and made her acting debut in the 2014 film currently on circuit, The Other Women.
Minaj has earned numerous awards including seven BET AWARDS, four American Music Awards, one MTV European Music Award, Two American Music Awards, five Billboard Music Awards, and Billboard’s 2011 Rising Star award.
