Philips discovers top Mzansi Barbers at knockout event
The 15th of May saw ten of Mzansi’s top barbers battle it out for the coveted title of Sharpest Barber and a prize of R5 000.
The boxing-themed event was held at Sir Stan’s Athletics Club in Maboneng Precinct on Thursday night and hosted by local comedian Mpho Popps, who kept the crowd entertained as local barbers went head to head, round by round in the ropes to claim the rights to the title.
Philips ambassadors, Dylan ‘Blayze’ King, Arye Kellman, and Lennox Bacela were guest judges along with eTV’s OG Molefe and Armando Santos, Senior operations Manager at Philips.
With a knockout performance, it was Michael Murukhuladi from Protea Glen, Soweto who clipped his way to the top.
The passionate barber stated how excited he was to be part of the competition and launch of the three new hair clippers by Philips.
“Using clippers is a part of my everyday job, which is why it’s important that we use the best tools when servicing our customers. Philips has launched a great set of clippers and I’m glad that I was the one who put them to the test tonight,” states Murukhuladi.
Philips’ Africa Lead for Personal Care, Thandeka Ngoma, expressed that in line with the launch of the new Philips hair clipper range, it was key for the three different clippers to be trialed by the experts.
“The main aim of the competition was to put the new range of Philips Clippers to the ultimate test, and who better to experience the range than our local expert barbers? There is so much undiscovered talent in South Africa and a competition like this brings out the best we have to offer in hair grooming. We are amazed by what pride the men of Mzansi take in their appearance and grooming routine,” said Ngoma.
Philips launches three new clippers under the Hairclipper Series this month – two of the 5000 series clippers and one of the 3000 series clippers, keeping South African men looking ‘sharp’.
