GoodLuck Live Q&A
So we got the chance to ask the guys from GoodLuck Live and this is what the band had to say
1. So guy’s can you give us a brief explanation as to how you guy’s came across one another and formed the band?
We were all in local CT bands and new of each other from the scene – Jules and I were in a acoustic band and I wanted to start an electronic side project so we booked a gig – with no idea how to produce or perform we threw ourselves in the deep end and happily managed to pull it off! We booked more shows, learning from each one how to read the audience better, how we could improve our songs and after every gig we’d go back to our makeshift studio and try to figure out how to make the show better. 3 months in we asked Raiven to come and jam his Sax and it fitted so well we decided to form a proper band.
2. Can you tell us the creative process behind Creatures Of The Night?
Our first album – much like our first gig was trial and error, we had no idea what we were doing! We built our studio, whilst figuring out how to record, mix and produce a record and it exceeded ever expectation we could’ve dreamt up. So following that up became a massive hurdle for us to over come – how to better 5 number 1’s and 9 top 5 radio singles?! I decided we needed massive inspiration and that meant thinking out of the box – we took that quite literally and packed our studio up and headed out into the Namibian desert to record Creatures of the Night. We stepped into an environment that was so beautiful and inspiring that it took our breath away! We spent 2 weeks traveling the country recording the band outside in the open and sampling incredible sounds from nature which we incorporated into the album. We filmed the whole adventure and release a feature documentary called “This might sound crazy” that we launched in Amsterdam last year. That is the summarised version – check out the video on our YouTube channel for the full story!
3.What distinguishes Goodluck from the many talented band’s across South Africa from your point of view?
We make a supreme effort to produce the best live performance we can – which basically means we cart our entire studio around the world and set it up on stage so we can perform as well as we would in studio! Touring in Europe taught us pretty quickly that we had to put together a show that was beyond what we would’ve thought we were capable of!
4.Are you looking forward to your Holland leg of your tour ?
We love touring in The Netherlands the audiences there are incredible – they get really excited about artists who are pushing the norms on live performance and luckily they love our music! So it makes for electric shows and great parties!
5.How and when did you find out that you guy’s were nominated for the YOU favorite music star category and how did you feel?
when our press agent told us we were up for the YOU Favourite Music we were completely bowled over – we sometimes forget that anyone even knows who we are! We’ve always made our music for our fans and they’ve been incredibly supportive (even when we make crazy decisions like going to record in the desert), so it’s such an honour for us to be nominated alongside such talented local artists!
6.Are we to expect any new music from Goodluck during the course of this year ?
We are always writing and producing songs for artists around the world so there is always a little bit of GoodLuck out there, but this year we are focusing on some really cool remixes and collaborations with both local and international artists and then releasing as many singles as the radios will take off Creatures of the Night! Not sure we’re going to break our record 9 off the first album though!
7.How awesome was it teaming up with Diesel for the figure of 8 video?
Diesel are an incredible brand – so cutting edge with their fashion, and such a great team of stylists who worked tirelessly to make us look the best we’ve ever looked (I think!) and believe me we needed all the help we could get! We are so lucky to have their support!
