#DesignWednesday On Evgeny Kazantsev : The Future Is Here

When I was a kid, I wanted to be Darth Vader, but not the Darth Vader who saves his son Luke Sky-walker just before he dies and kills Palpatine in Return of the Jedi (I take it you have seen Star Wars, everyone has seen Star Wars right?). I wanted to be the evil Darth Vader, the one that got smothered by Obi-Wan Ken-obi and lost all sense of self control, committing villainous acts and never desiring to return to the light. Anyway, this article isn’t about my border line personality disorder, that’s another story for another day. What I am trying to get at is, thanks to George Lucas, we could all envisage a future that seemed far, far away. By “we” I mean everyone that ever got enraptured and encapsulated by Star Wars and the imagery and themes depicted in the film; space travel, telekinesis, mind control, humanoid, robotic droids etc.

The good news is; that past future is here, imagine construction drones that help move shipping cargo onto watercraft, architectural technologies that allow for the development of structures on the surface of the moon, an underwater city built through technological advancements…man, try imagine elevated highway systems that allow for increased travel opportunities. These are illustrations by Russian Digital Artist and Industrial Designer Evgeny Kazantsev, he was commissioned by Gefest Insurance Company to show how the real locations and objects of our time will develop and integrate into the world of the future. The series is called ‘Past In The Future’. So because it’s #DesignWednesday we thought we should celebrate this great talent, we found him fitting, so do the right thing and go over to his Behance account, delve into his world and relish. Peace, thank me later.
