Majoring In Cycology

Unless you are in Paris, Amsterdam, Cape Town or some world class city in a first world country, bicycles are generally boring… not in Joburg. In sight of recent alarming statistics on global warming and how we are doing our very best to accelerate the planets destruction. In Mzansi(South Africa) bicycles are certainly not a preferred or even a desirable mode of transportation, it is ultimately ranked the lowest used transport facility in comparison to the popular Mini Bus Taxi , Bus, vehicle or train. It is passively frowned upon by both the privileged and their underprivileged counterparts.
Bicycles are either viewed as a really cool piece of mobile machinery for kids or adventurists and health crazed middle class cyclist families. All this will soon be a thing of past in Johannesburg, Gauteng and the rest of beautiful South Africa, Vincent Truter of Cycology is a renowned vet in the creative world, after hearing his story of how he got introduced to life on 2 wheels, that which I won’t go into, you get a sense of a series of divine interventions in the path of this talented creative.
Fast forward to modern day contemporary Joburg life, people are more inquisitive, better researched and a lot more informed than they were 10 years ago. Burning fossil fuel and losing the last of your hard earned Rand hardly ever goes down well with a informed generation, people have learned from modern cities all over the world, doing their utmost to get people to be more eco-friendly by creating exciting and engaging ways of bicycle and planet saving initiatives. “Book Of Swag” as a brand and company also realizes that, we as young, black and influential city slickers, have a responsibility to assist with matters that are closest and most pressing to us every day South Africans.
Through Vincent Truter and the Jozihub community in 44 Stanley, we got introduced to the jaw-dropping, head turning electric bikes. A2B metro bikes are the nemesis of traffic, the way they gently glide through the most congested traffic jams in Jozi, Sandton,Alex and the inner city to mention a few.
Cycology being at the forefront of changing the public’s perception on bicycles forever, by virtually diving straight into the future of Joburg street mobility through the #DecongestSandton project. Statistically 78% of 3.8 million Jozi drivers are in a traffic jam daily, 75% experience high levels of stress in traffic, 40% employees are late for work daily due to traffic and 342 000 have to cancel meetings due traffic.

After a perception altering experience on E-bikes, from people’s uncontainable disbelief on bicycles that move without the labor of paddling, and exceptional craftsmanship on a the bike to top it all off. We also had the opportunity to take these bikes to the hood for an all time first for the bikes and evidently the community of Alexandra township.
People of all ages could not contain their excitement, “it’s a revolution” said one motorist, “How much? What is it and SKUTA-BICYCLE” is all we heard, all weekend from admirers of all sizes.
This E-bike runs up to 35km/h on a straight road, up to 55km/h on a downhill road, it charges for 3 hours for full battery life and rides as far as 35km before next recharge, with all that being said, the experience of life on 2 wheels was only going to get better, we decisively wanted to be the first in our field to enable this fast tracked introduction of these babies to the township, Gomora. Because of its rich history, forward thinking, melting pot of evolving urban youth, and youth culture. The hood as we fondly know it responded with great warmth & exhilaration to these electrically operated wheels.
The coolest in city because change is constant, and brings infinite opportunities and informal and pragmatic solutions in aid of our city and the only planet we’ve got, fortunately you don’t have to dress a certain way to enjoy the Cycology electric bikes, so you can swag out and still play your role in actively providing solutions to this growing dilemma called the “Traffic jam” , but this is only chapter 1 on our educational journey of “Majoring in Cycology”.
