The Color RunTM – The world’s largest single event series debuts in Joburg!

For the first time ever, the original of all powder races and happiest 5K on the planet – The Color RunTM – is heading to Jozi to celebrate National Heritage Day on 24 September.
Joburg is getting ready to transform its streets into a five kilometer canvas of colour to give locals and visitors the most colorful time of their lives. The Color Run is about encouraging people to be happy, experience new adventures and have fun, without worrying about the little things (like getting messy!) Internationally renowned in more than 50 countries by over four million participants as a vibrant, family-friendly race, The Color RunTM celebrates health, happiness, individuality and unity.
Tickets were recently released online and entries are filling up fast, so Color Runners are encouraged to enter at www.thecolorrun.co.za. Alternatively participants can enter manually at Randburg Runner or at The Sweat Shop outlets in Dunkeld, Fourways Crossing or Bedfordview. Groups of four or more buddies receive a discount and kids under ten run free, provided they are accompanied by an adult.
Look out for The Color RunTM ‘Refer a Friend’ offer where you can get your friends running and score. Every time one of your friends buys a ticket to any of the Color Runs in South Africa you can earn R20 credit towards any awesome Color Run merchandise – tutu’s, sunnies, socks and much more. It’s too easy – after purchasing your online ticket, follow the instructions & share your unique link. When a friend clicks to buy, your account will automatically be credited with R20 for you to redeem on merchandise.
Participants receive their free race packs full of goodies to wear for the event, including The Color Run t-shirt, headband, temporary tattoos and race number. A packet of powder will be also thrown into the race packs to start the excitement.
The fun will start at 10am at the Roosevelt High School in Emmarentia. The start will be staged in 3 minute waves, to ensure that Color Runners have enough room to move along the route. The finish line is close to the start, and Color Runners and their families are invited to enjoy music, local food, giveaways and some good clean fun in the festival zone afterwards.
Runners will arrive at the start wearing the white t-shirt and headbands provided in their race packs. When the starting gun fires, the festival of colour begins! There are five color-blasting stations at each kilometer mark, meaning you’ll finish splashed in a rainbow. The race ends with a colour-throwing party where Runners and spectators get to make the world a more vibrant place whilst dancing to their favourite music.
Don’t let the term ‘Color Runners’ stop you from entering. The Color RunTM is a non- timed event, and is more about having fun than competing for Olympic gold. 60% of Color Runners are first-time runners, participating for the sheer joy of doing something unique, healthy and fun. So run, jog, walk, rollerblade, or get pushed in a pram … anything goes! There’s only one rule: have the most colourful fun of your life. It’s not called “the Happiest 5k on the Planet” for nothing.
Once the fun is wrapped up, we begin the clean-up process of five kilometers of organic corn starch, which is what the colour powder is comprised of. The corn starch is dyed with organic food colouring, completely safe and natural, and the local cleaning company has a swift job dusting off the colour around the route.
There’s a lot that stays behind after The Color RunTM – not just great memories and technicolour photos. Despite being a global initiative, The Color RunTM sources local suppliers for each event. The Color RunTM is also a socially conscious event platform that uses proceeds to give back to the local community.
